Battle Princess Madelyn is a canvas for beautifully interlaced pixel art. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for this type of game and I think that the developer Casual Bit Games knows it.

Battle Princess Madelyn is Casual Bit Games’ second Kickstarter effort. Their first effort, Insanity’s Blade – The Arcade Experience, was a success in raising the $6,000 CA. It is now available on Steam for purchase. Insanity’s Blade was created from a concept from lead designer, Christopher Obritsch. It is about his high school stories about an axe with human intelligence. Christopher states that his first game that he created was “Go Go Maddy” and that he created it for his daughter.
Battle Princess Madelyn has pixel artwork that looks like it belongs with some of the better 2d titles on the Sega Saturn.
Battle Princess Madelyn is revisiting that first project and building it out from there. Christopher Obritsch mentions that he made this game because he wanted his daughter to know that a princess can be a knight and save the day. His daughter Madelyn also has a hand in the development process as she injects art and concepts into the game. With just 8 days to go Battle Princess Madelyn smashed through it’s $44,845 Kickstarter goal.
Casual Bit Games has posted a demo of Battle Princess Madelyn on Steam and IndieDB. After spending some time with the game, I found that it was the music that stuck with me. It has a very Genesis era FM Synth sound to it. The pixel artwork looks like it belongs with some of the better 2d titles on the Sega Saturn.
If you enjoy classing playing games, check out the demo and maybe pitch in on the Kickstarter.
