Many readers here may assume that VHS is a dead medium nobody cares about anymore. In fact, quite the opposite is true. In recent years it’s becoming more and more commonplace for camp horror films to be released/re-released on VHS. Low budget classics like Sledgehammer and The Dead Next Door are slated to get cassette re-release treatments and fans couldn’t be happier. Just as a community has grown from a love of retro games a community has sprung up in support of the Beta’s big brother.

These Special Editions are just as much about the art as they are about the films themselves. Many of the VHS versions have alternate cover art created by Director Lucas Campbell or other film staffers. The cassettes themselves come in a variety of styles such as white with blood splatter. If the idea of buying a video cassette gives you the warm and fuzzies this would be a great way to start collecting.
You can pick up the Campbell Brothers Collection containing all the special edition VHS for $75. If you only want specific titles each movie individually will only put you back $15. Check out the Compound Pictures store for more details.
