We’ve got to be more than just fast… Now I have little love, or even like for that matter, for the Fast & Furious movie series. I also have very little desire to play movie tie in games, but one day I stayed home from work sick and saw that Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious was free and had absolutely nothing better to do. I have to admit it was much better than I thought it would be, but it ultimately is just a Forza Horizon 2 skin but that game is really well built and extremely fun so let’s go…
Here’s the story… It is very light on the details. Basically Ludacris, Tej, says they need one more person on a job they are planning and he’ll vouch for you if and only if you collect ten cars from his list. He is the narrator and only character from the movie. So you set out to win pink slips for ten cars and each “race for pinks” has at least one preliminary race before the actual race. I assume all the cars are from the movie.
As with both Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One, this stand alone add-on is beautiful. You are in a city in the Mediterranean. The city is well detailed and it goes from urban and densely populated to country with more wide-open spaces. The races are pretty cookie cutter. Some taken from other games in the Forza series and they are not exactly challenging (although you can increase the difficulty). The cars themselves handle, as you would expect from this series, very well. Each car handles drastically different from the others. This add-on does not allow you to do any customization or modification to the cars which is something we expect from this franchise.
The sound design in this game is well done. The cars sounds pretty realistic and the soundtrack is not bad. The music is just one radio station that plays through your car and you have the option to turn it off. And while I did not really like the artists they chose I left the radio on because I felt the music fit the environment and made the game a more full experience. Ludacris’s voice acting is serviceable but his phases get repetitive. When you start a race you may need a different class of car and he always says something like “That cars cool but it ain’t the right one for this race.” I heard that line over a dozen times and it got old.
Technically the game runs smoothly, looks great, sound is pretty good, and for a movie tie in game it was really fun and I really enjoyed my time with it. It is now $10 to buy on Xbox Live but if you are not sure if you are into Forza Horizon it could be a good buy to pick it up and try it out.
