Blizzard just dropped a bunch of major announcement at Gamescom 2016 involving Heroes of the Storm. For some time fans have been anticipating the next round of updates. It has been general knowledge that the next major update would involve Star Craft since the last 2 were World of Warcraft and Diablo. Now it is official in the form of Machines of War. This update will include new heroes, new maps, a new in-game event, new mounts, new skins, and a new bundle.

New Heroes

The new heroes that are being released next will be Alarak and Zarya. Alarak will be an assassin class character originating from Star Craft and Zarya will be a warrior. Other than their existence, there is no real information on these heroes. Not 100% sure why Zarya got thrown into the Star Craft update but I am sure Overwatch fans will be excited.

Raider Rexxar, The Butcherlisk, and Queen of Ghosts Kerrigan

The 3 skins that were announced are Raider Rexxar, The Butcherlisk, and Queen of Ghosts Kerrigan. None of these skins are lore-specific and are more like cosplay skins for the characters. Rexxar gets to dress up like a space marine and The Butcher takes the form of an Ultralisk. Kerrigan’s skin is the most exciting out of all three. Along with being a legendary skin it mixes a slick Tron meets Ghost in the Shell inspired armor and a light cycle mount.

Two new maps have also been announced staying within the Star Craft theme called Braxis Holdout and Warhead Junction. Braxis Holdout requires each team to try and capture two beacons. Once the beacons are controlled holding cells are filled eventually releasing a wave of zergs. Warhead Junction will spawn warheads across the map allowing players to pick them up to deploy nukes on the opposing team’s base.
